Legends of the Phog

Last Saturday we went to the Legends of the Phog game at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. It was an exhibition game where former KU players returned to play for fun. It was also my first trip to Allen Fieldhouse. It can only be described in one word- awesome!

These first couple shots are from the museum inside the fieldhouse.

The court.

It's starting to fill up!

The action begins...

BEWARE!

Needless to say, I was happy to finally make it to a game. It definitely won't be my last!

Fabric Rosette Headbands

I've been making these headbands lately so I just thought I would share the process. It's pretty easy for those that like to make things yourself.

First, cut a few strips of fabric. You can do pretty much any length or width- I usually do anywhere from 1"-3" wide, depending on how big I want my rosette to be. I usually just cut a strip the length of my piece of fabric. Strip size will determine how big the final rosette will be. The longer and wider the strip, the bigger the rosette.

Just dab a bit of hot glue on the wrong side of the fabric and fold it in half width wise.

Roll the glued end tightly about three times. This will be the center of the rosette.

Then start twisting the fabric as you wrap it around the the center. Every few twists secure it with a drop of hot glue.

Just keep twisting and wrapping until you have a rosette as big as you want, securing every so often with a drop of glue.

The Many Faces Of Princess P

My Princess P has many faces, most of which I see in a day. These are the ones I saw just today.

First, as you can probably see, she usually takes her clothes off as soon as we get home from school.

 This is serene...

Silly...

Now she is crying because she thinks I ate her goldfish...

This is my basket that is supposed to hold blankets. (Note the blankets on the floor at the edge of the photo.)

Mommy gets a surprise!

She sleeps- at 5pm.

These are just a few of the many. My beautiful princess.  I love using my camera to capture every one of her many faces.

Funny Face

I loved P's outfit this morning, so I wanted to get a shot of her in it before she went to school. Well, she was adamant that she was NOT having her picture taken. So these are just quick shots with pretty much no effort or thought in settings and composition. But, her face was just too funny not to share.

My Mini Michelangelo

We went to the Dollar Tree this morning and P found a poster paint kit she wanted- two posters plus paint and a brush for a buck.  I love watching her concentrating so intently on her project.

She was fully intent on painting a masterpiece.

We ran out of purple fairly quickly. You can definitely tell that's her favorite by the amount that wound up on the picture!

Couldn't quite freeze the motion of the paintbrush with the amount of available light. But just look at her go!

At the park

One day last week we decided to take advantage of the cooler temps and go to the park. These slides have been here as long as I can remember.

Coming down the curly slide.

I love watching the kids go down these! It's really fun if you wax paper the slides- you fly down!

                          My little monkey.

This plane was flying around while we were playing.

Stuffing our faces with cotton candy! YUM!!

Rocking the cotton candy beard. (Well, I guess it looks more like a cotton candy goutee.)

Gotta get it all!
A shot of our favorite thing to do at the park- riding the carousel! Only costs 5 cents!

First Day of School

The last couple of weeks have been really busy at our house. Getting back into the back-to-school routine is nice but takes some getting used to. Luckily all of the kids were excited about going back, or for P, going to pre-school for the very first time.

August 30, 2011- The first day of 1st and 7th grades

Look at his face! Looks like he is up to something- he usually is!

She had to wait a few days after the other two started- that about drove both of us NUTS! She was beyond ready.

They are all growing up so fast. I miss my little babies.

Crayon Art

I saw these on Etsy selling for what I thought was way too much, and being on a crafting kick lately I decided I could just make my own. So I went to Walmart (which I hate but it's my only option unless I want to make a road trip) and bought canvas and crayons. I got the flat canvas for this and Crayola crayons.

I used two packages of 24 crayons and 11 x 14 canvas. I removed all the brown, white, gray, and black. After I arranged all the colors like I wanted them I had space for one more crayon so I stuck a black in the middle. I just lined the crayons up with the bottom edge and hot glued them in place.

This is just over halfway done. I made sure all the crayons had Crayola facing up- just cause that's the way I liked it.

Here they are all glued in place.
